If you’re looking to get into using bifold doors, you may want to change the way that they open. After all, there are so many different ways to open this, and usually, if you want to open them, you put a key in and then they open up. But, what if you want to change it? How can you do that? Remove them First

The first thing you’ll need to do is remove them.  You do so by pulling them up, and taking the bottom bolt of the hinge off there, and then pull down and then outwards to get the top hinge off.  You will want to be careful with this.

Work on the Insert

Next, you want to work on the insert. This is the glass area you’ll change. From here, you remove the insert at the bottom along with the hinge bolt that pivots with pliers that remove the pint and the bolt.  You can unscrew the bottom pin from there, tap the insert at the bottom with a hammer, and then screw the bottom pivot hinge there into the insert in order to change the directions of this.

If you notice that you are working with two top pivot pins that are different, you should remove these and then reverse them.

Working with the Hinge Brackets

The next step is to unscrew the bottom hinge from the casing and then reattach this on the other side.  You may need to loosen the hinge at the top of the bifold track door, and then reattach this onto the other end of the track itself.  This may take some time, and you should always be careful when doing something like this.

Finishing Up

When you finish up, you want to push upwards on the doors and then seat the hinge bolt at the bottom of the bracket area, so that the side of the door is at the right distance from the casing.  You may need to in order to adjust this, loosen the screw on there, and then adjust it so that you’re able to have it at the proper distance.  At this point, make sure that the hinges are decently tightened, but not all the way in the event that you’re going to have to change things in the next step.

Testing them out

Testing them out is your final step, and that’s as simple as opening up and closing the bifold doors.  What you want to go for here, is to ensure that you’ve got enough clearance and that the doors open up and close relatively easily. If they do that, then you’ve got it.

If you notice that it doesn’t, adjust this as needed, and check the hinges to make sure that they’re lubricated enough. If you’re still having issues with this, consider hiring a professional to make sure that they’re put together effeminately.
