Tips for a Stress-Free Move

Tips for a Stress-Free Move

Moving is quite possibly one of the most stressful things we do. There’s so much to plan and do and worry about and there’s never a “right time” to do it. That doesn’t mean you can’t take steps to make your moving experience less stressful. Here are some helpful tips to keep you from pulling your hair out:

Create a Checklist

Instead of worrying throughout the entire moving process, do yourself a favour and write a checklist! There are a lot of great examples online if you’re worried about missing something, but if you walk around your space room by room you should be able to come up with a list of all the important tasks you need to do before you leave for your new home.

Get Help

Too much to pack? Need an extra set of hands to lift furniture or patch holes from your art? Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Have a moving party with friends and offer them good food and a few drinks in exchange for their help. If that’s not an option or you have a lot of space to pack up, consider a company like Fast Friendly Careful Movers who offer not only moving services but packing services too! You don’t need to do everything yourself if you just don’t have the time (or hands) to do so.

Declutter

What better way to lessen your load (literally) than taking the time to declutter? Get rid of all the clothes, electronics, books or kitchen gadgets you no longer need and you’ll be cutting back on a ton of packing. Donate these items, or make a few extra bucks by selling them on Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji or Craigslist. In the end, a couple of fewer boxes will make a world of difference.

Get Enough Sleep & Take Your Time

Don’t forget to take care of yourself during the moving process and if you have the luxury of time, use it! Trying to do too much often translates to trying to fit more and more into our days, often at the sacrifice of sleep and other self-care necessities. Doing this is a surefire way to burn yourself out halfway through moving, so make sure you’re getting enough sleep and taking time away from your to-do list to relax and take care of you!

Don’t Worry About the Little Things

Moving takes up a lot of time, and we’re often doing it while we’re still working 8 hours a day, taking care of our kids, and tackling other responsibilities so now is not the time to stress yourself out over the little things. Don’t have time to make dinner? Don’t feel guilty about ordering takeout. No time for grocery shopping or other small errands? Make use of a delivery or task service. While you may not like to outsource these small things all the time, forgive yourself if you need to a little more often while you’re in the process of moving, it’s not worth the stress!

Consider a Moving Company

If the actual act of moving itself is just a bit too much for you, or you need more people to help then it may be time to consider your local moving company like Early Bird Moving! There’s a lot of logistics involved in the actual move itself, and if that’s something you don’t have the resources to take on, that’s okay! It’s amazing how easy a moving company can make things for you, so take advantage of that and let that be one less worry.

Moving is never going to be entirely stress-free, there’s just so much involved and so much you can’t predict but these tips show you that there’s a lot you can do to lessen your load!
